Old medicine for a modern world: This new book educates its readers about Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and how health problems are effectively treated from a different perspective. Readers will acquire a basic understanding of TCM — what it is and how it works — as well as its benefits, risks and potential for preventing and treating health problems.

The potential benefits of using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) would decrease the discouragement futility felt by many women who cope with chronic health problems. Despite evidence of its effectiveness, women do not usually consider TCM as a treatment alternative until after receiving failed Western treatment. TCM and Western protocols can and are used, concurrently.  It is a woman’s right to consider TCM as a primary part of her health care. Often she lacks information and knowledge about it.  TCM can help many women overcome and resolve health concerns.

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine for Women’s Health: Bridging the Gap between Western & Eastern Medicine:

  • Broadens general understanding of how TCM and western medicine differ in diagnosis and treatment
  • Enhances knowledge of what to expect from a TCM practitioner
  • Explains how acupuncture systems work in common terms
  • Outlines gynecological, reproductive, or menopausal disorders more naturally and completely
  • Approaches disorders including PMS, painful, heavy, irregular menstruation, PCOS, infertility, and pregnancy-related issues from a TCM perspective
  • Shares nutritional, lifestyle factors and tips to help you make better, more informed choices about your health
  • Stresses how emotional health is as important as physical health
  • Summarizes many research and clinical studies
  • Discusses other health issues including insomnia, incontinence, vaginal itching, heart disease, and headaches

Unlike Eastern treatment, Western treatment does not individualize. What Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM does:

  • Focuses on root causes and treats disorders without a disease “name” and in many cases, before it fully forms. Western medicine requires a scientific, diagnostic, identifiable cause in order to address the problem.
  • TCM’s potential for early detection, strengthening of the immune system, reversal of symptoms and prevention of disease unfortunately remains unnoticed.
  • Side effects of TCM or Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) are insignificant in comparison with those of Western pharmaceuticals.
  • TCM considers the impact of lifestyle, diet and nutritional choices and discusses these as part of the treatment plan.

Many disorders, including infertility and gynecological problems, are treated successfully by TCM alone or in conjunction with Western practices. Some disorders are better treated by TCM instead of Western medicine.

Author and owner of OC Acupuncture, Inc., Kathleen Albertson, L. Ac., a California state and nationally-licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist for over 14 years, was compelled to integrate Western and Eastern thought to advance more natural and root-based patient care. Her purpose: to advance the education and knowledge of women and the medical community on the effective treatment TCM has for gynecological and fertility disorders.

Albertson encourages us that, “TCM works! More focus on treatment of menstrual irregularities may spare thousands of women the depression, frustration and isolation that accompany infertility.”
